In some good news for households across India, Amul has announced a major cut in the prices of over 700 product packs, including ghee, butter, ice cream, cheese, bakery items, and frozen snacks. The new prices will come into effect from September 22, 2025.

According to Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul products, the decision was taken to pass on the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate cut directly to consumers.

“This revision is across the range of product categories like butter, ghee, UHT milk, ice cream, cheese, paneer, chocolates, bakery range, frozen dairy and potato snacks, condensed milk, peanut spread, malt-based drink, etc,” GCMMF said in a statement.

With this revision, many products that are daily household essentials will become cheaper. For example, the MRP of butter (100 gm) has been reduced to ₹58 from the earlier ₹62. Ghee prices have been slashed by ₹40 to ₹610 per litre. Similarly, the price of Amul processed cheese block (1 kg) has been cut by ₹30, bringing it down to ₹545 per kg. The new MRP of frozen paneer (200 gm) will be ₹95 from September 22, compared to ₹99 at present.

Amul has already communicated these price changes to its trade partners, which include distributors, Amul parlours, and retailers across India. Customers are expected to benefit from September 22 onwards as the new price tags reach shops and markets.

The cooperative believes that reducing the prices will not only help customers but also increase the demand for dairy products like ice cream, cheese, and butter. India’s per capita consumption of these items remains relatively low compared to other countries, which gives Amul a big opportunity to grow further.

GCMMF, which is owned by nearly 36 lakh farmers, said the move is expected to boost demand for its wide range of dairy products and contribute to further growth in its turnover.

Amul, which is already one of the largest dairy brands in the world, recorded an 11 per cent rise in revenue last fiscal year, reaching ₹65,911 crore. This growth was mainly due to higher volumes across different categories.

The total revenue of the Amul brand (unduplicated across categories) increased to about ₹90,000 crore in 2024-25, compared to ₹80,000 crore in 2023-24.

Interestingly, Amul is not the only dairy brand to announce a price cut. Mother Dairy has also announced similar reductions in the prices of its products from September 22, giving consumers across the country more reasons to smile. (Agencies)
