The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered the withholding of salaries of 18 Block Development Officers (BDOs) for their poor performance in completing the e-KYC process of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA workers, calling it a serious lapse in duty.
According to the order issued by the Secretary to the Government, as reported by Kashmir News Corner (KNC), the decision was taken after a review meeting held on November 2, 2025, which revealed that several blocks were performing well below the Union Territory’s average of 49.68 percent. The poor progress was described as a “clear dereliction of duty” by the officers concerned.
As per the directive, BDOs from Kupwara, Trehgam, Rajwara, Herri Qadriabad, Panthal, Kalaroose, Harwan, Sogam, Mawar Qalamabad, Kralpora, Ramhal, Magam, Nadihal, Khonmoh, Reddi Chowkibal, Qaziabad, Srinagar, and Thakrakote have been instructed not to draw their October salaries, while their November salaries will also remain withheld until the e-KYC targets are met in full.
The order reflects the Government’s continued emphasis on accountability and timely digital verification under the MGNREGA scheme across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
