Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, today felicitated the winners of the Kashmir Marathon-2025 at a grand ceremony in Srinagar.
The Full and Half Marathon events — covering 42 km and 21 km respectively — were organized by the J&K Tourism Department and saw participation from around 1,100 runners representing 27 States, Union Territories, and 11 foreign countries.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said that the enthusiastic participation of runners reflected the unifying spirit of sports and its power to strengthen brotherhood through shared experiences.
“Within just two years, the Kashmir Marathon has become one of the most prestigious running events in India. It has inspired a new generation of runners and filled people with pride and passion. I am sure that in the coming years, it will draw even greater participation and boost tourism in a big way,” the LG said.
Highlighting the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, Shri Sinha said the progress and peace achieved in the region were made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Jammu and Kashmir is the crown jewel of India — a paradise on earth with its rich culture and heritage. I thank Prime Minister Modi Ji for the historic transformation happening here, which is shaping a modern and spiritual Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
The LG also urged locals to make the most of the international exposure brought by the marathon. “Let us use this opportunity to showcase our culture, crafts, and tourism to the world,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, DIG Central Kashmir Range Rajiv Pandey, SSP Srinagar Dr. GV Sundeep Chakravarthy, and DC Srinagar Akshay Labroo, along with senior officers from civil and police departments.
