Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed strong confidence that the National Conference (NC) will win all four Rajya Sabha seats in the upcoming elections scheduled for October 24. He also urged the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, to refrain from making what he called “baseless statements.”
Speaking to reporters after attending a joint strategy meeting, the Chief Minister, as reported by Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that ahead of every Assembly session, NC and its allies hold a Legislature Party meeting to discuss strategies and coordinate their approach. “This session is different because Rajya Sabha elections are being held, and today’s meeting focused on preparing a strategy to secure all four seats,” Omar said, describing the meeting as crucial.

“I am thankful to Tarigami and other independent members for attending the meeting. With the unity and enthusiasm seen among NC MLAs and independents, I am hopeful that NC will win all four Rajya Sabha seats,” he added confidently.
Responding to questions about the Congress’s absence from the meeting, Omar clarified that they had their own internal discussions. “Congress has always maintained that they will not let the BJP win. Their system is different from ours — they wait for directions from their high command, while we make decisions locally,” he explained.
“The Congress high command cannot be in favour of the BJP,” Omar asserted, pointing out that in earlier bypolls, the Congress high command had decided to leave the seat for NC even though the local unit was ready to contest.

Regarding support from the PDP, the Chief Minister said, “Our leader Shami Oberoi met PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti today to seek her party’s support for the NC candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections. Earlier, Dr. Farooq Abdullah also spoke with her. While the PDP has not yet made their decision public, they assured us that it will be taken after internal discussions.”
Omar also hit back at the Leader of Opposition for his recent remarks. “He must clarify who made the offer to form a government with the BJP. We have not made any such proposal. We don’t hide anything. The LoP should stop issuing these baseless statements,” he said firmly.
