Despite freezing winds, residents of Soibug and nearby areas in Budgam turned out in good numbers to cast their votes, showing strong enthusiasm for development and change.
At Polling Station 44, Soibug-D, located at Government Middle School Bonpora, long queues of men and women were seen since early morning. Even in sub-zero temperatures, the spirit among voters remained positive.
“We have voted many times, but this time we want to see real work — proper roads, clean water, and regular power supply,” said Abdul Rashid, a local resident of Soibug, while speaking to Kashmir News Corner (KNC).
Young voters also expressed similar hopes for visible progress. “Our generation wants to see results, not just speeches. We want clean drinking water and stable electricity,” said a first-time voter after casting his ballot.
At the Community Hall polling station in Budgam town, similar scenes of public participation were reported. “Every election brings new promises, but now we will remind them what we truly need,” said another voter while waiting for his turn.
Polling remained peaceful and well-organised throughout the day, with security forces ensuring smooth conduct. Residents said voter turnout was steady in the morning, saw a brief dip during midday, and picked up again in the evening as more people came out to vote.
The Budgam bypoll, contested by 17 candidates, has development, power supply, water scarcity, and basic amenities as its main local issues, reflecting the growing public demand for visible progress and accountability
