The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held an important meeting with the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh in New Delhi on Thursday evening to finalise possible candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
According to sources quoted by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), BJP J&K President Sat Sharma and General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul met BL Santosh to discuss the party’s election strategy and the selection of candidates. The meeting was also attended by Tarun Chugh, BJP’s National General Secretary and in-charge of J&K affairs.
During the discussion, the J&K leadership submitted a shortlist of seven potential candidates to the party high command. The final decision on who will contest will be taken by the BJP Parliamentary Board, which oversees key electoral nominations across the country.
Confirming the development, Ashok Koul told KNO, “We met the BJP leadership and submitted a list of probable candidates. Now the party high command will take a final call on the matter.”
He further added that the Parliamentary Board will decide whether the BJP will contest all the seats or focus on a single one, depending on the overall electoral strategy.

As per reports, four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled for election on October 24. The BJP is in a strong position to win at least one of these seats, while it may also field candidates on the first two seats as part of a symbolic contest against the National Conference–Congress alliance.
Party insiders believe that with the current numbers in the Assembly and growing organisational strength, the BJP remains confident about securing at least one seat and playing an active role in the upcoming parliamentary composition.
