Several higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing fresh snowfall, while light to moderate rain continues across parts of the Union Territory. The wet spell is expected to last for the next 12 hours, the weather department said on Tuesday evening.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif told Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that as of 6 p.m., Razdan Top had recorded around 2 inches of snow, while Sonamarg, Baltal, and Zojila Pass witnessed light snowfall with 1–2 cm of accumulation.
He added that Tulail in Gurez Valley also received 1–2 cm of snow, and light snowfall was reported over Sinthan Top, Peer Ki Gali, and Gulmarg.
Arif said that rain and snow showers are expected to continue for another 8–10 hours, after which the weather will start improving gradually.
“From tomorrow, mostly dry weather conditions are likely to prevail across Jammu and Kashmir and continue for the next 10–15 days,” he added.
The forecaster noted that the ongoing precipitation is beneficial, as it provides relief to low-lying areas from dry conditions while maintaining snow levels in higher regions — crucial for tourism and water resources in the Valley. —(KNC)
