He, however, said the delay in restoring statehood is something only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can explain.

Speaking to reporters in Kulgam, Omar Abdullah said that statehood was a promise made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and it should have been restored by now. “We were hoping that the Centre would return statehood within a year. We don’t know why it is being delayed — only the BJP knows the reason. But our fight for it will continue,” he said.

Talking about the revival of the Darbar Move, Omar said, “From the very first day, I made it clear that whatever promises we made to the people of the Union Territory, we will fulfill them. The revival of the Darbar Move was one of those promises mentioned in our manifesto, and since 2021, it has been restored.”

On the issue of reservation, the Chief Minister said that a cabinet sub-committee led by Sakeena Itoo was constituted to look into the matter. “The committee has submitted its final report, which has been approved. The cabinet memo is now being prepared for circulation and will be sent to the LG for approval,” he said.

Speaking about the losses suffered by farmers due to weather-related damages, Omar said that the government does not need to wait for the Assembly to act. “Wherever there has been damage to crops, assessments have been completed. We are in talks with the Centre for a relief package, similar to what other states have received. Jammu and Kashmir also deserves such support,” the Chief Minister added.

When asked about revoking FIRs filed during the COVID-19 restrictions, Omar said, “Law and order powers are not with the elected government right now. Once we regain those powers, we will fulfill all other promises as well.”

Meanwhile, in a post on X, the Office of the Chief Minister, J&K, said that Omar Abdullah visited stalls set up by various departments in Kulgam.

“Chief Minister took a round of stalls set up by various departments at Kulgam, showcasing key government schemes, public welfare initiatives, and achievements under flagship programmes,” the post said.

“He interacted with officials and beneficiaries, appreciating their efforts towards citizen-centric governance and effective service delivery,” the post added. —(KNO)
