Speaking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Karra said, “The matter will be discussed with the party leadership, and they will examine all aspects before taking a final call.” He declined to share further details.

In the upcoming polls, the NC-Congress alliance is expected to comfortably win three out of the four seats. With six MLAs in J&K, Congress may likely push for one of these safe seats.

Sources indicated that the party could field Ghulam Ahmad Mir, MLA from Dooru, who has been active at the national level. Mir, who was appointed general secretary in charge of Jharkhand in December 2023, is currently serving as general secretary in charge of West Bengal. Under his leadership, Congress performed well in Jharkhand, securing 16 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats.

The party may also consider nominating a senior leader from Jammu mainland, a region where Congress once had a strong base but has not won any assembly or Lok Sabha seat since 2014.
