The Jammu Railway Division of Indian Railways has collected over Rs 32 lakh in fines within just ten days as part of a major campaign against ticketless and irregular travellers. Nearly 2,500 passengers were caught during these special drives.
A senior railway official told Kashmir News that regular ticket-checking operations are being carried out at all major railway stations under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Uchit Singhal. These drives aim to improve passenger convenience, ensure fair travel practices, and boost railway revenue.
During the ongoing festive season, daily ticket-checking drives were intensified to provide better travel experiences and to prevent illegal travel. On Friday alone, the railway team—led by Sr. DCM Uchit Singhal and assisted by Assistant Commercial Manager Manoj Meena, Chief Ticket Inspector Abdul Rashid, and other staff—conducted extensive checks across multiple stations and trains in both directions.
In just one day, the team collected fines exceeding Rs 7 lakh by penalizing around 1,200 ticketless passengers.
According to official data, the ten-day ticket-checking campaign brought in fines totaling over Rs 32 lakh from nearly 2,500 passengers travelling without valid tickets.
Speaking about the drive’s success, Uchit Singhal said, “Our efforts to strengthen ticket-checking during the festive period have shown excellent results. It has not only increased revenue but also ensured a more comfortable journey for genuine passengers.”
He added that although the Jammu Division is newly formed and faces a shortage of ticket-checking staff, the team has performed exceptionally well in maintaining discipline and fairness across the routes.
